The Beaches You Can Hit On Catalina

Eating, drinking, and beaching are three of the best things people look for in their ideal vacation. For LA residents as well as visitors from farther away, Catalina Island offers plenty of opportunities in this area.

Avalon Beaches

These calming beaches are all within walking distance from the main hotels in Catalina Island and popular restaurants in the city. Filled with soft sand and gentle surf, they offer a kind of mental relaxation highly valued by tourists and locals alike. There is always good swimming to be had, and restrooms which are conveniently close.

Descanso Beach

This is on the far side of Catalina Casino, and is famous for being the only private beach where they serve alcohol. It has a great view, plus swimming and plenty of activities like snorkeling and kayaking. The per day access fee is $2, and that lets you use outdoor showers, dressing rooms, restrooms. Cabanas and chairs can be rented.

The Descanso Beach Club also has an open-air restaurant that serves some of the best sandwiches, salads, specialty cocktails, wine and beer. It is also where you head off for the Zip Line Eco Tour.

South Beach

Located right next to the Green Pleasure Pier, and close to food, shopping and restrooms, South Beach is a good spot for relaxing on the sand or taking swim to cool off after the day’s sightseeing. Or spend the whole day here.

Middle Beach

On the left side of Green Pleasure Pier, Middle Beach has scenery to relax you and is close to food, restrooms and shopping. Also has lifeguards on duty in the summer.

Step Beach

This is to the north of the Green Pleasure Pier, and is smaller than the Middle and South Beaches. Step Beach has a small stretch of sand flowing directly into the ocean. It has lifeguards on duty during the summer months.

Two Harbors Beaches

Few things beat the relaxation and views of the harbor from the beaches in Two Harbors. The upper beach lets you get in some sport on the volleyball court. Equipment, lounge chairs and other items can be rented at Two Harbors Dive & Recreation. These beaches also offer the prefect adventure opportunities – you could kayak in the clear waters or hike to nearby coves.
