About The Two Harbors in Catalina Island
If you have never visited Catalina Island, then you are missing out on all the fun. The island offers a whole new world to the visitors. Catalina is one of the Channel Islands, but it is not a part of the Channel Islands National Park.
Catalina Island has two main destinations, namely, Avalon and Two Harbors. Avalon is a tourist center that buzzes with cruisers, restaurants, hotels, and tourists, whereas Two Harbors, as the name suggests, is a harbor with a campground. The place has only a few guest properties, a snack bar, a restaurant and a general store.
The Two Harbors
The two harbors, namely the Isthmus and Cat harbor, give the name to this place. Boats approach the harbor from the backside of the island. Cat harbor has wind protection from all sides and so it is an all season harbor. Cheery Cove, Emerald bay, and Fourth of July are places where you can moor your boats.
If you do not have your own boat, then visiting the island can be costly. There is a ferry service to the island. The passage rate for adults is $65 and $50 for kids. Gift cards are also available for the Catalina Island ferry from Costco. Hundred dollar gift cards are available for eighty dollars, thereby helping you to cut the costs. If you are planning to take the ferry, you need to book your seats in advance though.
If you are planning to visit Avalon, you may leave from Marina Del Ray or San Pedro. If you wish to visit both Avalon and Two Harbors, you can get the ferry to Avalon, and catch the safari bus to Two harbors from there. After reaching the island, you can just walk to Catalina Harbor in ten minutes.
The Two Harbors is an ideal spot for exploring remote areas and wildlife in the island. Where some visitors prefer the island for that, others also go to the Two Harbors to enjoy a relaxed and peaceful island experience. Whatever your reason may be, it is for sure that you will have a good time in Santa Catalina Island.
